Lesson 5: LIFTOFF Competition with Mission 1

Goal

Create experiments with space application focus.

Understand how the sensor works, and the limitations of the sensor.

Understand the real-world application in space.

New Information Presented

Real life examples of electronic applications in space.

Variety of new sensors presented for specific applications.

Application Task

View presentation, preferable in groups or 3 to 4 students, brainstorm possible problems to solve in relation to presentation (15 mins)

As a group decide on what problem the group will solve and the sensors required. ( 20 mins)

Research sensors and their application using the Raspberry Pi.

Analogue or digital signals?

How to display the information on the LCD?

What additional code is required?

Goal Revisited

One or more groups could correctly assemble and run the associated programme to test the sensor operation. Students can comment on how effective (sensitive) the sensors are.(10 min)
