Does SA have a future in space? CEO Flavia Tata Nardini on ABC Radio

Adelaide has been chosen as the venue for the International Astronautical Congress in September 2017. Over 3,000 international delegates will attend the week long congress. Michael Davis, Chairman of the Australian Space Industry Association, joined us in the studio to discuss what we can expect. He brought astronautical engineer Flavia Tata-Nadini along to tell us about her company "Launchbox" which helps school children launch their own satellite.

First Launchbox Kits Launched on Sunday 9 November!

Fantastic news! Over the weekend we successfully launched eight model cubesats on two high-altitude balloons from Mount Barker High School in Mount Barker, SA. Unfortunately the first balloon suffered a parachute failure and landed in a empty field at high speed. Thankfully no-one was hurt! We made our way past a very large bull at the crash site to retrieve the remains. The cubesat frames were destroyed on impact but luckily all the GoPros and the GPS survived! The second balloon had a more gentle landing and the payload was in good condition.

Thanks to Project Horus and everyone who was involved!

First launch set for September 2014

Exciting news! Our first schools balloon launch will take place in the 3rd week of September 2014, from Mount Barker. We're teaming up with Project Horus and 10 secondary schools from the Adelaide area to send Launchbox Kits into the stratosphere using high altitude balloons.

Project Horus is an amateur high altitude balloon project based in Adelaide, Australia. The aim of the project is to build and fly low cost weather balloon payloads into the stratosphere, capturing photographs, recording sensor data and providing a reliable launch platform for high altitude experiments.
